CABRI IN TEACHER TRAINING
Frédéric Gourdeau
Université Laval, Québec - Canadá

As a mathematician involved in teacher training, I am most interested in devising mathematical courses and mathematical activities which are of value for their inherent mathematics, of course, but which also contribute to the development of an attitude towards mathematics which can translate into good teaching practice.

Cabri plays a key role in several activities we have developed over the years. These activities enable many students (prospective high school teachers) to reconsider their understanding of mathematics as a subject, and to reconsider the relationships between mathematics and technology. Of course, more needs to be done (in particular from a didactician’s point of view) but this is a stepping stone in trying to ensure that prospective high school teachers are open minded and can be innovative when it comes to the use of technology.

In this talk, we will discuss some of the issues involved in this type of work and present specific examples of work being done with Cabri.
