CABRI-GÉOMÈTRE: A DYNAMIC GEOMETRY SOFTWARE CHANGES GEOMETRY AND ITS TEACHING AND LEARNING ?
Rudolf Straesser
IDM, Univ. Bielefeld - Alemanha

Taking geometry as a mathematical sub-discipline and a tool to explore and plan reality, the lecture first presents cases where dynamical geometry software (DGS) changes the way old problems and representations of geometry are treated. A short look into the societal use of geometry leads to examples of changes in the teaching and learning of geometry showing that the user of DGS can live differently in geometry, can give it a broader scope and a new, more flexible structure. In all, geometry can be used differently if it is taught and learned differently. Nevertheless, there is a final reminder: To profit from the use of Cabri implies coping with additional and more complex (teaching and learning of) geometry.
